    Presidents Weekend
Parents Weekend is coming up, it means a three day weekend. So I am planning to go home back to New Jersey. But really just for the purpose of visiting some of my friends in NYC. Me and Pete are taking my room mate, Kyle aka Roams, to NYC because he is from Maine, and never had the pleasure of being in the city. Actually its kind of weird to be from NYC and come to DC. They are two very very different cities, in fact at some points I don’t consider DC a city at all. Anyways, im going to visit my friend Gabe at Fordham, and my friend Sankho at NYU.
They both have visited me already, and were gonna come again this weekend, but I figure il visit them, because I havnt yet. I also want to spend one night at home in jersey, see my parents and such. And I want to bring back with me from home some good bagels, because I don’t know what it is, but there are no good bagels in all of DC, although before I left for college I was told that outside of the NJ-NY area, there aren’t any good bagels to be found.
It should be a great weekend, because it will probably be an eventful time spent. Unlike DC, NYC there is stuff always going on and a lot of stuff to get caught up in. Here it is either go to a Club or stay in your Dorm, not my style of play. So NYC should be fun. I will be taking the China town bus, which is a bus service that represents its cost of $20. You just go, pay the 20, and they take you from DC china town, to NYC china town. It takes about 5 hours, I only use it if friends are going with me, then it’s the train.
But taking this bus is actually really fun, because all my and my friends do is mess around for 5 hours. Although a lot of it is spent sleeping. Last time was fun, but I am definitely not sitting next to the bathroom this time, a bad choice trust me. But it should be cool to show Kyle NYC, and to see some kids from home again. But right now im sick, and need to get some sleep.

    Saturday
Richmond was one of the 5 teams we had lost to previously, so we need to beat them, or it kind of looks bad on our part. Our last victory over Dayton proved helpful, as ESPN has put us back on the mark as possible NCAA bids. We still need to string together some victories however, if we want to do anything. I was not able to go to this game, because my friend Dave (mentioned previously) had his older brother come visit. So they came into DC for lunch. Daves brother Noah is kind of that guy who is real chill and does all the things that you see as weird, but all the girls seem to love him for it.
So the funny thing is, only those close to Dave know his brother, and know that everything Dave is, really stems from his brother. Because there are a lot of things Dave does, that you think are original, but really are just from his brother. So whatever, Dave, Noah, and Ben came in, Ian did not because it was College Gameday, and ESPN had came to Maryland for the annual Maryland-Duke Game, a fierce rivalry.
So we went to Au Bon Pan, because Dave wanted soup, but he ended up getting a sandwhich anyway. Some random funny moments took place, that was the end of it. Then hour past, I went out to dinner with my friend Sam. We went to Kaz, a sushi bar in DC. We go there a lot, we actually have a VIP card because we spend so much money there every time. Sam wanted me to try this steak they had. It was Cobe beef, which I had never had.
So I ate it, it was awesome. But then Sam explained to me one, why it was so expensive, and two how it is made. Apparently it is along the same lines as Veal. It is a cow born, but raised off the ground in a cage so small the cow can never move. This is so the cow can never move in its whole life, it is fed through a straw and such. It is so the cow does not develop any mucles at all in its body, which is very sad. It is made just for the purpose of human cooking.
I vowed never to eat any more Cobe steak for the rest of my life as I see it as a horrible act, as I don’t eat Veal either. Well aside from that, we ordered a lot of sushi, some of it more expensive then others. In end I think we spend around 80-90 dollars. By the way I rarely do this, its kind of a once in a while thing to spend so much money on food. It was a good day.

    Superbowl
So it was Superbowl Sunday, a National Holiday in every mans book. We had ordered 300 wings, had many hot dogs and burgers. A very fun day. I was rooting for the Eagles, because even though last year I made a lot of money off of the Patriots, I no longer liked them.
See the NFL was set up so their couldn’t be dynasties, with the draft and the restructuring of schedules, it is hard to be a dynasty. Its kind of funny to say I don’t like dynastys, because I am part Raiders Fan and we in fact had our own four year dynasty in the 60’s. I knew the Patriots would win, but I still had hope for the Eagles.
The game progressed as I thought it would, a close game, but at no time did I doubt the Patriots would win. But its ok, they won their 3rd Superbowl, but next year I think it will be different. See the Patriots two coordinators are leaving, who I think are the masterminds behind the Patriots. To me Bellecheck is a great coach, but way to overrated. He has an all star roster, any coach would be great with that. Lets look at when he didn’t have all stars, no one remembers when he was with the Browns, they sucked. So wel see how good he is without his two coordinators next year, but he will still have his all star cast. Which at some point will diminish, and wel see what people remember him as.

    UMD
I went to Maryland Friday night to visit some of my high school friends. I got lucky I guess, I didn’t know anyone from GW before I came, but three of my really good friends went to UMD, which is conveniently a metro stop. So I was chillin in my room, my friends from here were doin the nightly activities of a freshman I guess il call them, but it was still early so I was just watching TV, see at college I can go out later, because I usually come home late. So it hit around 10:30 and I figured id get ready.
It seemed like my GW friends were not doing anything out of the ordinary, me not physically feeling up to taking part in the festivities, signed online. I started talking to my friend Ian from UMD, he told me to come to Maryland, I accepted. He meant it as a joke, because I usually don’t do stuff that random, as to just go to another state at 11 something at night, but I did.
So I went to Maryland, took about an hour to get there on the metro. When I got there I was greeted by Ian, it was cool. We decided what to do for the night, and unlike here where frats aren’t a necessity, over there its pretty much all you can do in a night. Also their campus is HUGE so it takes a while to get to Frat Row as its called. So we went over, and Ians roommate was in a frat, so we went. My friend Ben also came, Ian and Ben are high school buddies of mine.
You have to take the bus, so we did and we went over. We go the party, got in free, it was some frat, I don’t remember the Greek letters. To tell you the truth it was kinda wack so we left. At this point I was kind of tired, just wanted to chill. So my other friend Dave, another high school friend, was pledgeing for Lambda Chi Alpha at Maryland, but had just finished his rushing duties for the night, so we went over to his place. He was very tired.
Dave is more of a social character, very outgoing and such. So his room is real chill, a lot of cool things, people always stopping by. So we just chilled there as I had many times before. We just watched a movie, Pirated of the Carribean, a pretty good movie. At this point it was real late, around 4 or 5, so I just went to sleep,. It was a chill night as I like to call them. Cool to see your friends from home though.

    Dayton Game
Now that we had lost our Xavier game, this game vs the Dayton Spiders was more important. Now we were 12-5 or something, which isn’t a good record, even more so if were trying to bid for a playoff birth. So me and my friends went again, this time wearing the shirts we had won from the previous game. Dayton has been notoriously the strong team in the A10, if we could win this game, then it might offset our previous lose slightly. So instead of the last game and not being able to hit free throws, this game we couldn’t hit free throws or get rebounds.
It looked like we might lose another game. If we had lost this game, we probably would have had a very very upsetting season. I had read somewhere that traveling to Dayton as a road team, was one of the 10 top worst things to have on your schedule. Its not that Dayton is a top 25 team in the NCAA, its that basketball is probably all they are good at, and they probably have a lot of fan support, which definitely showed in this game because I would say maybe 20% of the people seemed to be rooting for Dayton, which means they traveled from Ohio to see this game, no easy drive. We were pretty much ahead for most of the game, which is good. We ended up winning, so it was a good day.

    Xavier Game
I played varsity ice hockey and lacrosse during high school, but never really took a liking to basketball, unless it was playing with my friends. Many of my friends were on the team, but I never went to a basketball game all four years of high school. When I got to GW, I new I had to take a liking, because there were no hockey or lacrosse games I could go watch. So I thought I would be a very energetic fan, one who would go to all the games, as I do for my New York Mets and New York Jets. However, I didn’t go to all the earlier games, just because I never really found time, nor did I see it as worthwhile.
So I heard that Xavier was our school rival, and that we had a game coming up, I had to go. So I went with a couple of my friends, and got pretty good seats, 1st row in the second level. It was pretty cool to be at the game, more intense then most high school games, everyone wearing their buff yellow colors. Then some guy came by and asked if any of us wanted to be in the halftime show, of course two of us had to do it, so my friend Pete and I accepted. I had never been in a half time show before but it seemed cool.
The game started, the team actually didn’t look as good as I had seen on TV. In the beginning of the year, we were ranked 1st in the Atlantic 10 division, and a shoe in for the NCAA tourney. We had two big wins over ranked teams Michigan State and Maryland, but since then wed lost to teams like Massachusetts and West Virginia, who weren’t ranked. So this game was big because it really decided if we could compete or not.
People came around and they were throwing out t-shirts, I never caught these things at games. But actually, for some reason, maybe our good seated or our jumping skills, everyone one of my friends caught one, except for one. Actually the one person who didn’t catch one was my friend Josh who wanted one the most.
It was about seven minutes to go till half time, so me and Pete went to the side of the court. Our task was kind of bizarre. One of us had to throw Mardi Gras beads at the other, and the other had to catch them one handed in a hat. Pete played varsity baseball in high school, so he caught. We were practicing, doing trick shots like around the backs through the legs, it was fun. We looked like we would definitely win. By the way the prize was two plane tickets to Miami for Spring Break.
So it came time for us to go out and do our thing. We had ten seconds to see how many we could get. I think I might have throw like maybe five of these beads to Pete, but he only caught 3 of them. Partially my fault, we completed the first three, then I guess we sort of got cocky. But we lost, these girls next to us had gotten four. So what better to do then walk off the court with our thumbs pointing down. Apparently they would have given us free t shirts, but we already had ours so whatever.
Back to the game, we lost. Apparently we cannot hit Free Throws or we would have won. I have to give it up for that player on Xavier who hit the game winning shot against us. They were down by 2, with 4 seconds remaining. He drove down the court, in triple coverage off balance hit the 3 to win the game, the second time this year GW has been up and lost at the buzzer. It sucks, but its part of the game. It was a great experience for a first time college student, most likely I will end up going to the others as well.
